I had a pretty important meeting tonight with a close friend, Gail and I, which, as seems typical, kept us up extra late. But again, as I said, it was important, to say the least.
Well, it has been really sad hearing about the loss of 16 special operations forces in a single shoot-down in Afghanistan by one of the Taliban. They're trying to come back, and turn Afghanistan into Iraq East. However, even the left-wing media in the U.S. reports that the numbers of insurgents and terrorists killed in Afghanistan in the last three months are more than triple the number of combined dead Americans, Afghan police and civilians. That is instructive at how effective the comparatively small number of American troops compared to those in Iraq (30,000), in defeating Osama and Sheik Omar's boys and continuing to defeat them. The truth is, Afghanistan is getting pacified, and the warlords have been turning over their control to the Karzai government, and many of the heroin poppy fields have been killed off by aerial spraying by both Afghan and U.S. forces. A really cool interview was heard today on Hugh Hewitt's talk radio program (he of the major connection with the blogging movement with his book, appropriately called, 'Blog') with top wartime blogger Austin Bay, the transcript of which was recorded on Radio Blogger.com.
It continually amazes me, when I hear the stories from the guys who are there in the Middle East, how completely different the reality of the situation is from the portrayal of the war in the mainstream media (MSM we call it now), not only in America but in the whole world. That was confirmed to me in an interview on Hugh Hewitt's program with free-lance photographer/correspondent and blogger Michael Yon. It is amazing his conclusion that, outside of about 10-16,000 insurgents in Iraq and maybe a few thousand more in Afghanistan, after being there almost a year, that nobody there wants the Americans to leave, until their governments are firmly in place, their own armed forces are strong enough to handle the terrorists on their own, and their societies have stabilized.
Well, more to come tomorrow. But it is also important that America is still at risk, given that two Iraqis were arrested while being illegally smuggled near San Diego yesterday. Doesn't that warm the hearts of everyone that is hoping that America 'finally gets theirs?'
Later.
